Hi there, I'd like to start off with how I grateful I feel with the support Ive received from Kadam Foundation during my initial days in Canada. I felt lonely and struggled to adapt to a new environment that this country presented. During those days, I came into contact with a few volunteers of KF and they guided me towards understanding Canada's culture, local groups and systems. Now, I drive to work and am very familiar with the community I am living in. This has made me realize that when you relocate to a new country, all you need is one person to talk to and that role was fulfilled by the volunteer from Kadam Foundation.

Hello everyone, I am Fatema and I reached Toronto in 2021. I have completed my Physiotherapy course in India and have had some work experience too. This was my first experience to arrive solo in a new country. I liked Canada and had heard about it from friends for its inclusiveness and vibrancy. But I wasn't feeling confident and fell in a dilemma as to how I would face up with any unforeseen challenges and would I be able to cope up with its cultural differences. On the first day of my arrival itself, I met with Reema, a volunteer for Kadam Foundation. I felt welcomed by her and she facilitated me in a way that took the edge off. She invited me to her home and made me feel at home. She helped me to look for an accommodation, oriented me with the commuting system and took me around in the neighborhood to help get me familiarized with the community. She also helped with groceries and any immediate supply that I needed. This was amazing experience for me. I never thought that I will get this type of support. I must thank Kadam Foundation for their unconditioned help. I have decided that, I will also help new students to make their initial days smooth.

I Hamza Pathan, am very much thankful to the volunteers of Kadam Foundation for providing me support in my initial days. I came here as a student, with no friends in the vicinity. The way I was treated upon my arrival, I can never forget it. As a person riddled with questions in a foreign land, KF helped me remain at ease with their welcoming nature. Later on, it was easy for me to access all facilities and services. I also felt confident enough to talk and mingle with people individually and in groups. It is my desire to give back to KF with my time as a volunteer for Kadam Foundation. There is nothing more worthy than to support one another in their critical time.

When I landed in Canada, I was very excited and enthusiastic enough to start my education in this new land. But, along with that, I felt nervous regarding how I’d meet my needs, mingle with new people and how I’d fit in with the college experience and adapt to their teaching methods. Soon after, I met up with Dharti, one the volunteers for Kadam Foundation. Dharti counselled me and made me feel easy with things around me. I shared all of my questions and any doubts I had with her. As she hailed from the same city in India as me, I felt very comfortable with her. She explained to me about the culture, ways to operate while commuting, information regarding different systems at college and purchasing things from various places. She also guided me with places that would help meet my immediate needs. I can never forget her help during my initial days in Canada. I also want to thank Kadam Foundation for providing volunteers to students/immigrants like us in making our arrival in this country comfortable.
